Who is therapy for?

Everybody, because life can be tough and sometimes we just need someone to talk to. Therapy can sound like a scary word, but essentially, it’s just a conversation between you and your therapist, one-to-one. It can be in person, over the phone or through online video.

How do I get therapy?

You can access our therapists in two ways:

  • You can talk to your GP first who can request a referral to Fresh Minds. Your session may be eligible for full or partial funding.
  • You can request to book a private paid session directly through our website or by calling 0800 356 111.

What should I expect?

We know you might feel a bit nervous or anxious about your first session, so we aim to make it easy and stress-free.

  • After you book your first appointment, you’ll receive emails/texts with all the information you need about your appointments – date and time, therapist details, location, parking etc. You'll also be emailed a letter with more information about Fresh Minds services and an invitation to our client portal where you can complete forms and you can keep track of your appointments
  • You’ll also receive a reminder text about your appointment 24 hours beforehand
  • Leading up to your first session, have a think about what you’d like to discuss with your therapist and what you’d like to get out of it
  • For virtual appointments you’ll receive an email with a link to your appointment. For in-person appointments aim to arrive at the Fresh Minds office 10 minutes before it starts
  • Your therapist will welcome you and ensure you feel comfortable
  • The first appointment is usually 50 minutes and your therapist will speak with you about your situation and what’s going on for you. They will help you to get a better understanding of the thoughts and feelings you’re experiencing and together you’ll make a plan for the next steps
  • Over the course of your next 3-6 sessions you’ll learn new skills, set goals and develop strategies to manage your journey ahead.
